Last fall, Janet Helms stepped down as Chair of the Advisory Board of Kenya Christian Education Partnership (KCEP). One of the reasons she felt good about this decision is the confidence she has in her successor, The Rev. Canon John A. Macdonald. Six months in, John and the Board are remain busy carrying on the vision that Janet and Bishop Qampicha began in 2010.

But who is John and why is he so perfectly suited to this new role? We’re glad you asked!

The Rev. Canon John A. Macdonald, DMiss (Fuller Theological Seminary), is a former long-term missionary to Honduras and is the Associate Professor Emeritus of Mission and Evangelism at Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. While in Honduras, he served as the head of a church planting team in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, was Canon for Evangelism for the Diocese of Honduras, and then Dean of the Catedral del Buen Pastor (Good Shepherd Cathedral) in San Pedro Sula.

At Trinity, John was also the Director of the Stanway Institute for World Mission and Evangelism where he directed the mission program. This included representing Trinity at international meetings and leading students on mission discipleship trips, primarily to East Africa and Southeast Asia.

John was on the Board of KCEP when Tumaini Academy was founded. Among other voluntary mission organizations, he serves as Vice-Chair of the Society of Anglican Missionaries and Senders (SAMS-USA) and is a consultant to Anglican Global Mission Partners. As the former chair of the Steering Committee of Anglican Global Mission Partners, he represented the mission network at the annual Anglican Church of North America Provincial Council.

John has published numerous articles in various journals and other media outlets, and his photographs have appeared in a number of publications. He is also the author of the Christian allegory/fantasy Pachunga.

As John and the Advisory Board continue to advance the mission of KCEP, it is their prayer that the children of Northern Kenya will have the opportunity to receive an excellent education that prepares them both academically and spiritually for leadership.
