“Farmers are returning to their land. ”

Kakamega, Kenya

In Western Kenya, farming is the dominant industry. But unfortunately, due to the unsustainable growth of sugarcane in the region, the soil has been depleted. As a result, food has to be imported to feed those that live there. Farmers were leaving their fields empty!

To solve this problem, the Anglican church opened a food processing plant in Kakamega. The plant now provides a market for small farmers of new crops, including maize, ground-nuts, sorghum, and millet. These crops, even processed, are healthier than the sugarcane the farmers had been growing! The farmers were offered training to learn best practices for planting fast growing crops. They also learned financial literacy, marketing, and record keeping.

This 90 second video highlights the impact of the project in Western Kenya.
