Who We Serve

KCEP partners to build, operate, and sustain exemplary private schools in Northern Kenya that support a Christian worldview. Through the Anglican Diocese of Marsabit, we serve pre-school and primary students, high school students, and the wider community in Northern Kenya.

Tumiani Academy: Serving Pre-School and Primary School Students

Our prayer is that the love of Christ will be brought to the children of Kenya through Tumaini Academy. “Tumaini” means “hope” in Kiswahili, and as these children become future Christian Leaders, this school has become the “hope” of the community.

When you partner with KCEP you help to bring the hope of Christ to the Sololo area by giving students a strong education. This opens the door for them to become future leaders in Kenya and benefits the whole community. Without Tumaini Academy, the only other educational option for most families in the Sololo area are poor quality public schools with very oversized classrooms taught by an Islamic majority faculty.

A single student sponsorship of $30 a month ($1 per day!) provides tuition, lunch, books, uniforms, and shoes, along with an educational foundation built on a relationship with Jesus Christ.

St. Andrew’s High School for Boys

With so many well-educated children graduating from Tumaini Academy, it became clear that a path to high school was needed. The Diocese of Marsabit is committed to providing high quality secondary education for both girls and boys in the county.

The land for St. Andrew’s High School for Boys was donated to the Diocese and construction has been completed on the first two of three phases. Unlike Tumaini Academy located in Sololo, St. Andrew’s is located right in Marsabit. The school opened in May 2022 and welcomed 27 primary school graduates from the region. Phase two has been completed, expanding the school’s capacity and welcoming yet another class of students in February 2023.

You can read about why the Diocese of Marsabit chose to start with a boy’s high school here.

High School Scholarships

In Kenya, having a solid primary education is just the beginning. Tumaini graduates desire to continue their education in order to meaningfully contribute to the development of the region. By donating to the high school scholarship fund, Educate for Hope, you are preparing the next generation.

There are no free high schools in Kenya. The average high school tuition is $500 annually and is over twice the amount that most families make in a year. Normally, a high school education is out of the question for promising Christian students from these families.

After his consecration as a Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Marsabit, Qampicha approached the KCEP Board of Advisors concerned for the students whose parents could not afford to send them to high school. Bishop Qampicha is often asked for tuition assistance which the diocese is unable to provide. It was out of this need that the “Educate for Hope” scholarship fund was established in 2017.

Because the need is great, there is a process to apply for scholarship funds. Primary school graduates whose parents are seeking high school tuition assistance must be members of an Anglican church in the Diocese of Marsabit, and the pastor of the church is required to write a letter of recommendation to the Bishop. A local committee from the Diocese under the leadership of Bishop Qampicha prayerfully determines the scholarship recipients.

Teachers

In remote area of Sololo, Kenya, it is difficult to attract highly qualified Christian teachers who are willing to leave higher paying jobs from the larger cities. The monthly salary of our educated, licensed teachers is $175 a month. As Christians, they are willing to come because they have a missional call, but they need a living wage to survive. Your sponsorship allows Tumaini Academy to recruit and hire qualified instructors who quickly become part of the community.

The Surrounding Community

Students learn best when their families are involved in the process. When parents realize the benefit of education, the entire community flourishes. However, Northern Kenya faces many challenges. KCEP works to holistically support the broader community so that transformational lasting change is possible.

KCEP has partnered with the Anglican Diocese of Marsabit, Kenya to provide relief to area families as needed. Drought relief funds have been sent to the Kenya and used to supply beans and corn to those in the community. A multi-purpose building has been built at Tumaini Academy to not only serve the students, but to also be a meeting place for the community. KCEP also partnered with another US organization to identify and repair boreholes in in Marsabit. When the world stood still due to the COVID virus outbreak, funds were sent and used to aid those out of work because of closed businesses and the increased need for consumer products.
