“Another one bites the dust…” We know we aren’t the only ones singing this refrain, as event after event has been canceled or postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic!

ARDF and KCEP are both disappointed that the May 2020 Vision trip to Northern Kenya has been canceled. We love the people in this region and have been so excited by what God is doing in their midst through the Anglican Church.

Fortunately, before the virus became widespread and travel was limited, The Rev. Canon Dr. John Macdonald, Chair of the KCEP Advisory Board, traveled to Northern Kenya. John visited Tumaini Academy in Sololo, Kenya, visiting classrooms and bringing greetings from America. These in person visits are so inspiring to the children, who love to be reminded that we are praying for them!

Thanks to the success of Tumaini Academy, the demand for schooling has increased. Parents now see the possibilities afforded to children now graduating from Tumaini and heading off to high school! To meet this need, the Diocese of Marsabit opened additional preschool classrooms on the church property in Sololo.

Also on the Sololo church property, a new building, The Tumaini House, has opened. This building will be rented out to long-term lodgers, bringing income to the Diocese. Bishop Qampicha knows there is a need for supplemental housing in Sololo and rental income will be one way to support the ongoing mission activities of the church.

After all of this activity in Sololo, John returned to Marsabit. He visited a new diocesean school on the property of the Cathedral in town. John also participated in the groundbreaking of St. Andrew’s High School. A year ago, the site was blessed. Now construction is happening!

Construction is underway for the first two classrooms at St. Andrew’s High School.

Here in the US, where life is currently unlike anything we’ve ever known, we remember our friends and partners in Northern Kenya. We are blessed to be connected to them in a mission bigger than any virus. The Lord is in control and will remain in control. We look forward to when we can meet again in person.

Thanks to John who has represented us so well already in 2020!
