Development Highlight | Joy Land Kindergarten in Nepal!

The Deanery of Nepal, Diocese of Singapore, and the Anglican Church of Nepal renovated and equipped a recently purchased three-story building in Pokhara into a modern kindergarten. The renovation will make Joy Land Kindergarten a center of holistic Christian education in Pokhara. With the capacity to enroll 120 students, these children and their families will be exposed to a quality Christian education with a unique blend of local and international curriculum. Open to all, these children will grow and develop their knowledge, skills, and talents - regardless of race, caste, or religion.

Their 13-year-old, three-story building is an amazing example of God's provision! Several years ago, Joy Land Kindergarten was renting space for their school, praying for land to construct a building of their own. By God's provision, they were able to secure land for their school that already had a suitable building on it! The church learned that the previous owner's son envisioned the structure as a school for the neighborhood, but died before his dream could be realized. When the owner learned that the church was going to use the building as a school, he was visibly moved.

Last month parents, students, and teachers gathered for an open house to celebrate the completion of the school! Joyland Kindergarten will begin its school year on April 15, 2024.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for student enrollment and engaging of good staff.

  • Pray that through the school the community can be engaged and come to know Christ, and that the school will show the love of God to the community through its good education and character building.

Other Development News

  • In Mozambique, our partners from ARDF-Canada funded a project in Diocese of Zambezia to provide clean water for the community. The church has drilled 4 new wells and are rehabbing 14 springs. Throughout the process the church has shared about Jesus as the living water. As a result 15 new churches have been planted!

  • In Kenya, a project in the arid region of Kajaido Diocese restored a borehole and installed solar pumps. The small project also planted 10,000 seedlings in a tree nursery (with goal of 50,000 there) in an effort to positively impact the climate. Rev. Henry Orumoi, pastor at a local church, states: "It is a true blessing to us. Residents here would lose most of their animals due to the long distances they would walk in search of water."

  • The Church recently celebrated the Feast of St. Matthias, the apostle who spread the gospel to Ethiopia! You can read about two exciting new projects in Ethiopia (clean water in Gambella, and trauma healing in Tigray) on our website, and learn how to make a tasty traditional snack, Dabo Kolo, on our blog!

  • In Rwanda, our partners are working to mentor at-risk youth. Since 2023, the Anglican Church in the Diocese of Gahini has paired over 390 young adults with mentors, including 67 in refugee camps for internally displaced people in Rwanda. These mentoring relationships have provided youth the support they need to make positive change and have inspired other churches and dioceses to start their own youth mentoring programs!
