The Story…
Millions of school-aged children in Angola do not attend school. While education is valued and desired, Angola’s long civil war left the country with very little educational infrastructure. The Anglican Church in Angola has been filling this need by setting up educational institutions with a strong Christian influence, especially in rural regions of Angola. In the Diocese of Divine Hope, Fulama School and Community Center in Jacare (outside the capital city of Luanda) opened in 2019 with 10 classrooms and has been a beacon of hope in the community since. Unfortunately, with so few schools, hundreds of students have remained on waiting lists for years to enroll. By adding 14 additional classrooms, Fulama School will have space to enroll an additional 750 students who have been waiting for a chance to go to school.
This expansion will also provide much-needed space for offices, washrooms, and meetings so it can more effectively serve as a gathering space for the community. With several additional rooms, the diocese will provide a safe living place for children with nowhere else to go, as many children in the community are homeless. In addition to expanding the school facilities, the new construction will provide a home for these children, and the diocese will provide house mothers and fathers. Through providing quality education, the Diocese of Divine Hope is meeting an essential need in its community and is helping rebuild Angola by investing in future generations.
