The World Is Groaning

Renewed Call for Relief Funds

This week, it seems the entire world is in crisis. Our global Anglican communion is experiencing deep suffering in many parts of the world. In the past weeks, we have received desperate pleas for financial help from many of our trusted partners due to COVID wreaking havoc – again – in many places. And today, our hearts break for the people of Haiti and Afghanistan.

In Haiti, Tropical Storm Grace followed on the heels of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake.

The needs are great. And they are urgent. We are actively reaching out to our partners to learn the best ways to help. And when they respond, we will be ready to send funds from our Joseph Fund. This fund exists to quickly respond to all of these crises when current and new trustworthy partners come to us with immediate needs.

Haiti

Haiti experienced a 7.2 magnitude earthquake over the weekend, killing thousands. This was followed by the heavy rains of Tropical Storm Grace, which has created mudslides and flooding. ARDF is no stranger to this sort of tragedy. We sent over $500,000 to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, thanks to generous donors and faithful partners. We are currently in contact with our friends there, to learn exactly what their needs are. We know that congregations in Aux Cayes were affected by the earthquake. Video footage of the flooding looks even more devastating!

Renewed COVID Waves

For our overseas friends, the latest surge of the pandemic has been deadly. And lockdowns are causing severe economic strife. ARDF continues to support local church leaders with food, sanitation supplies, and other essentials.

In Myanmar, the church compound, “Bishopscourt” has become a makeshift hospital.

In Guatemala, this current wave of the pandemic is putting economic strain on an already vulnerable community.

The current 3rd wave of COVID is devastating. Many have died in July, including dozens of Christian priests and pastors. The crisis worsens. The Church of the Province of Myanmar, together with other agencies and humanitarian organizations, is racing against time to get oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators and medication during these critical weeks.

All of our hospitals have collapsed due to this fifth wave [of COVID.] Please keep all of us in prayer as Guatemala’s notoriously poor health care is now not even an option for those in need of medical interventions. We really really need your prayers!
— Rev. Dana Craft, Rector, Cristo Mi Redentor, Guatemala City

ARDF has a robust system in place to respond to these crises and we will continue to support local leaders overseas to meet the challenges facing their communities. We are grateful for our US partners who donate, allowing our response to be rapid and efficient.

Thank you.
