An Update from Joy Land Kindergarten, Nepal

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:19

Pokhara, Nepal

“David, in Psalm 34, urged us to ‘bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth’ (v.1) and to ‘taste and see that the LORD is good.’ (v.8)
The ongoing ministry partnership between ARDF and the Diocese of Singapore in the setting up of a school in Nepal is indeed an occasion to bless and praise God as we experience His goodness in leading us to accomplish His will.”

Bishop Kuan Kim Seng, Acting Dean of Nepal

A view of Pokhara, Nepal

Nepal’s Christian population has quietly grown over the years, yet hardship is common for the church in this small but beautiful country of 29 million people. 81% of the population is Hindu, and there is a pervasive caste system in which Christians and other marginalized people groups often have little opportunity for social advancement. The Anglican Church recognizes that education is a key tool for addressing inequality, as Christian schools offer high standards for education but also provide the transformative love of Christ as a basis for study, work, and all of life.

Joy Land Kindergarten is a registered mission school in Pokhara that is committed to providing this much-needed Christian holistic curriculum. The quality of education brought to the locals through this school is unique in its blend of local and international curriculum, and the students are in the good hands of caring and dedicated church leaders. Joy Land Kindergarten will serve as a model and a training ground for future missional schools. Currently operating in a rented building, the Anglican Church in Nepal has been praying for their own land with the hope of building a new structure for Joy Land Kindergarten. Christians are not favored in Nepal, and landlords often don’t want to lease land or buildings to Churches and Christian schools. This made Joy Land Kindergarten’s situation unstable.

In 2021, ARDF partnered with the Anglican Church of Nepal to raise money so the church could buy its own land with plans to construct a three-story school building on it. Since the project’s approval, one of the main prayer requests was that land could be identified and secured quickly for purchase.

In May of 2022, we received word that God had answered our prayers abundantly. Not only had land been found, but it already had a three-story building which would work perfectly for the school! Curious to know what the structure was originally intended for, the church reached out to the previous owner a few days after the purchase formalities were agreed upon. The gentleman’s answer was incredible. Apparently, the former owner had built that twelve room structure to serve as a school. His younger son had the vision of a school for the neighborhood, but had tragically died before the project could be realized. When the gentleman learned that the church would continue his son’s dream of running a school, he was visibly moved.

“Please pray for the ministry of Joy Land Kindergarten, which we are now likely to grow into a primary school as well. Please also pray for the gentleman who sold us the property; that he will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior, to God’s eternal praise and glory!” - Bishop Kuan

We rejoice over the abundance of God, who never ceases to amaze us with His love and care. Join us in praise and prayer for Joy Land Kindergarten and all who are involved in this project, saying with Psalm 34 verse 3, “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!”
