Pray for Rian, that he would become a leader in his neighborhood, demonstrating Your power of transformation to those living in a violent drug culture. Rian, a member of a Saturday soccer club, reports that without his finding Jesus in the soccer gym, his life would look very different.

Rian is 17 years old. He has been coming to the House of Hope’s Saturday Soccer ministry for nine years.

Rian lives in the neighborhood, a community where drug violence is rampant and young kids are tempted by drugs, alcohol, and gangs.

“Since I got here, I’ve felt something very different than anything I’ve felt before. In my mind, I thought that i would just come to play soccer then go home. I didn’t know anything about the scriptures of God. It was awesome, the moment I came here I realized there was a small group and I liked it and kept coming back.

The small group influenced me a lot. I used to be really aggressive and I didn’t care about having real friends. [Soon] my only friends were the ones in the soccer game. It was a way for me to calm down.”

Rian credits this activity to saving his life! “If I didn’t come here in the first place, I could be involved in drugs, alcohol and gangs. I would probably be dead.”

Because Rian has been saved - in more ways than one - he now volunteers regularly at the House of Hope. He wants others to experience the same transformation that he has. Rian helps with the kids at the daycare and he plays in the worship band at the church. “It moves me a lot because I can help people to worship.”

Rian has been positively influenced by the local leaders at the House of Hope. Their dedication to the community has affected the impact of ARDF’s initial investment (in the gymnasium where Rian plays soccer) exponentially. Learn more about these leaders in this three minute video.
