It might not look like much, but Carlile College in Nairobi, Kenya has an excellent reputation for training clergy and evangelists.

It might not look like much, but Carlile College in Nairobi, Kenya has an excellent reputation for training clergy and evangelists.

Carlile College Theological School, in Nairobi, Kenya, is known throughout East Africa as an excellent school for evangelism. In 2018, they needed a grant to help educate a select group of very poor pastors from Burundi, South Sudan, and The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Knowing of the school's excellent reputation, ARDF was thrilled to help!

This group of nine men and one woman talk about the impact this education is having.

“I thank God for Carlile college to this far they have changed my life.” – Thomas Thijin Wuor

“And now am very happy that I can preach and stand strong for Christ.” – Chuol Kuol Bipal

Most of the evangelists and clergy in these countries serve without training and in difficult contexts. (“Evangelist” is a term for a lay leader – a church leader who is not ordained clergy.) Yet there are many strong and faithful Christians in these countries; they just need tools and bible training in order to effectively continue their ministry. Past students from Carlile have returned to plant churches and serve in refugee camps where the need is great.

One event that impacted each of the current students was a “peace walk” that included Christians and Muslims working together. For some of these students, this was an “aha” moment.

“I didn’t know we can mix with Muslims in serving but I found it is true we can. This taught me a lesson that we need to love one another and serve together for His glory.” – Paul Koryom

“I was taught how to promote peace in the society despite of the races. We are all created by God and hence we need to love each other and walk in unity peace and love.” – Rebecca Nyachang Chuol

On a continent that has been plagued by Muslim-Christian violence, it is important to demonstrate non-violent ways of interaction.

This grant from ARDF funds three years of scholarship. After year one, the students report that they have been strengthened in their faith and empowered as effective evangelists.

“My participation in these activities has made me strong and bold. I thank God for Carlile college to this far they have changed my life.” – Thomas Thijin Wuor

We thank you, the ARDF donors, for changing these lives. For these smaller grants, we use general operational funds. And that is where you come in. Your general donations have directly benefited these students. The impact is clear.
