At ARDF, we long to connect people all over the globe to Jesus. We do this through strengthening the local church.

Sometimes the church builds a school or a multipurpose hall. These serve as places that attract the community to gather and learn about Jesus while gaining skills to alleviate some of their most pressing problems.

In many places, these problems include access to clean water and reliable, low-cost lighting.

Two new innovative projects can meet these needs, and we want your help in getting them into the hands of local communities served by the Anglican church.

The Streams Water Purification Tablet is a silver oxide product that filters out harmful bacteria. Placed in a 10 liter bucket of water, it purifies water in 24 hours, daily for up to a year. When the Streams tablet was tested in rural Nepal, villagers were at first skeptical. They had never experienced life without chronic diarrhea! A few brave households were willing to try it and before long, their neighbors came clamoring, “You have to share!” The results were that remarkable.

The XTorch is a durable, solar powered light source that serves as a lantern, flashlight, and cell phone charger. It has the “power” to allow students to do their homework after dark, away from dangerous cooking fires or kerosene lanterns. In Haiti, children in foster homes are also using the XTorch to get ready in the morning, since rise before dawn in order to get to school on time.

You now have the opportunity to purchase these products for the poor. Our partners in Kenya and Nepal are excited to distribute these products.

Instead of just purchasing them and giving them to the poor, however, the products will cascade down to the local church, who will sell them at a much reduced price, one that is affordable to the local community. The surplus generated by the local church can be used to fund other ministries, such as emergency food aid. By requiring the poor to invest in these products, we believe villagers will treat them as an investment, better valuing and maintaining them.

So, this fall, bring the gift of light and water to the poor. The XTorch is ready to be shipped now and for $600, you can send 10 XTorches to where they are needed most. For $200, you can provide clean water to 10 families for a year. The Streams water tablet is in production and will be ready to ship in 2020.
