The Sololo District is located in the Eastern Province of Kenya bordering Ethiopia. The District is classified as extremely arid and livestock rearing including cattle, camels, and sheep is the most important economic activity of the people. Precipitation is low and is concentrated in a very short period of time during the year. Consequently, not only is the amount of water available to the inhabitants of Sololo considerably lower than their daily needs, but the region is not able to meet minimum hygiene standards.
A drilling rig was donated by Water for the World to the Anglican Church of Kenya for their use in drilling wells in Kenya. These funds will provide pumps, pipes, and fuel for a bore hole well drilled in the Sololo District to provide clean water for families both Christian and Muslim.
