This relief update comes from The Rt. Rev. Rennis S. Ponniah, Bishop of Singapore:
Grace, peace and strength in the Name of our Ascended Lord.
Thank you so much for your sustained prayers for the people of Nepal and for my Deanery there. Thank you too for mobilising and releasing financial support, and in some instances putting my Diocese personnel in touch with people willing to provide practical help on the field.
We thank the Lord that to date, we have been able to raise about S$250,000.00 for the relief work. Pray for us in wise and effective disbursement of the funds.
Our Diocese has been able to send our Crisis Relief team (ACROSS) for a week-long emergency relief operation. Our Dean of Nepal, Rev Lewis Lew, together with another clergy, Rev Barry Leong, were there in Nepal at the time of the second earthquake. God in His grace kept both teams safe. The second earthquake was a major setback to the people. I append the latest update by Dean Lewis Lew.
Bishop Kuan Kim Seng (our Director of Missions) and I will be leading a team to Nepal from 1st – 5th June. During that time, we will be ordaining three Nepali pastors, whom we have been training, to the Diaconate. Pray that they will receive charisms from the Holy Spirit to enable them to minister in the midst of the pain, to build up their congregations and to reach out to those who have yet to know Jesus as Saviour and Lord.
This goes out to you with my love and prayers. We will continue to trust the Lord that out of the ashes will arise new life and out of the gloom, a new dawn will shine in Nepal (Is 60:1-3). Thank you for your valuable partnership in sharing Christ’s love and advancing His Kingdom.
“For the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd; He will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” (Rev 7:17)
Yours for His glory,
