“For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.”
– Romans 8:22-23
The season of Lent is an important time of reflection and repentance in the Anglican Church. Based upon Jesus’ forty days of fasting in the wilderness, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (March 1st, 2017) and concludes on Easter Sunday (April 16th, 2017). It gives us the opportunity to remember and acknowledge the brokenness in our own lives and in the world around us. We recall that we are all equally poor–whether spiritually or materially–before God, and equally accepted because of his radical grace.
This Lent, we continue the focus on peace we began this past Advent. Peace is vital to the mission of ARDF, and through our partnerships we strive to bring peace to our brothers and sisters in the development world. This includes the peace of having basic needs met—clean water, shelter, and the ability to flourish, to name a few—but more importantly the eternal peace we have in our Savior, Christ Jesus.
ARDF is also excited to offer high-quality materials to help you and your church get involved including prayer guides and mite boxes that will help you and your congregation learn about God’s heart for the poor and the Anglican Church around the world.
We are pleased to offer these materials free of charge to Anglican churches across North America as our way of saying “thank you” for your incredible support for our faithful brothers and sisters around the world.
Each week during during Lent, participants will learn something new from our prayer guide about our Anglican brothers and sisters around the world. Participants will have the opportunity to place a small donation in a mite box on their behalf. Most importantly, there will be suggested prayers for our brothers and sisters around the world. Consider challenging the adults in your congregation to match or double what children raise with their mite boxes! Click here to request calendars and prayer guides. You can also print them at home by downloading this file!!
We provide mite boxes to collect small donations or labels can be printed online and affixed to a jar as a simple recycling activity! Please encourage participants to fill out the contact information tab on the mite box and drop in the offering plate to be returned to ARDF.
