From the Executive Director — We must help with the Syrian Refugee Crisis

Dear ARDF Friends,

I am pleased to announce that ARDF has decided to partner with World Relief to respond to the escalating Syrian refugee crisis. World Relief’s journey began over 70 years ago when churches in the US responded to meet the urgent humanitarian needs arising out of Europe following the end of World War II. Once again, we are seeing a groundswell of Christians responding compassionately in the midst of the growing Syrian refugee crisis.

Today, nearly 12 million refugees have been displaced by the crisis; 7.6 million within Syria and 4 million displaced in neighboring countries. About half of those displaced are children. As followers of Jesus, we are compelled to act!

Since 2013, through partnerships with local organizations and churches, World Relief has been working to provide urgent supplies for displaced Syrian refugee families in Jordan and Iraq, as well as sponsoring child friendly spaces for mothers and children.

With the massive influx of refugees now flowing into Europe, World Relief is opening an office in Turkey to mobilize churches to respond to the largest population of refugees fleeing Syria. Germany alone will likely become home to over 800,000 Syrians.  We can help empower local churches in Europe and other locations as they welcome and serve these vulnerable populations, helping them find jobs, acquire a new language, and find housing.

Specifically, World Relief and partners are providing the following:

Essential Supplies for refugees, including temporary shelter, hygiene items, pots, pans, cooking utensils, and more.

Trauma Therapy – Equipping local churches to provide therapy for women who experienced unspeakable atrocities at the hands of Islamic State fighters.

Child Friendly Spaces where children can safely play, receive basic education, process the trauma they experienced, and feel Christ’s love through the caring hands of Christians.

Resettlement Services – Here in the US, World Relief works with local churches to welcome thousands of refugees every year. Many of these individuals come as a direct result of this crisis, and we expect that number to rise. World Relief supports these individuals with English classes, job training, housing support, and relationships with Christians from a local church.

Just as in the days of Esther, I believe that this is the time that God has invited us to respond and advocate for those in danger. Here are some of the ways that you and your church can partner with World Relief and ARDF to respond to this global crisis:

  • Financial Support: Please send a check to: World Relief, 7 East Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21202. Or, give online by credit card at: We Stand For RefugeesPlease indicate that this support is for the WR/ARDF Syrian Refugee Partnership.
  • Prayer: World Relief has developed a daily prayer guide that may be helpful as you intercede to our Lord for refugees. Throughout the week, pray along with us for refugees’ protection, health and provision.
  • Mobilize Your Church: To end the Syrian refugee crisis, the Church must lead the way. World Relief is ready to equip your congregation to respond. Click Mobilize.
Thank you friends.  Jesus taught us plainly “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”  Acts 20:35
Gratefully,
