Christmas Day is over. The anticipation of the Christ Child arriving and all the pageantry our children play out as part of the Christmas Story are over. The excitement diminishes as gifts are opened, meals shared, and visitors return home.
Boxing Day is the day after Christmas in England and related Commonwealth countries. It emphasizes giving. Traditionally, employers gave gifts to their employees on December 26th. Boxing Day helps us remember people who have assisted us in our daily lives as well as those who have so much less than we do.
Despite the exchange of earthly gifts, we know that the real gift of Christmas endures. Christ was born those many years ago and lived among us. We needed help in learning how to love one another and to love God. So God visited our planet to show us how. As we follow Christ’s life, He gives us a way back to a relationship with God and forgiveness of our sin. In short – He gives us new life both now and in eternity with Him. There is no gift more important than Jesus Christ.
If you have not given to ARDF, it is not too late. A gift through ARDF gives a hand up in life through effective church-based projects that promote education, medical assistance, food, and vocational training. More importantly, your gift demonstrates the gift Jesus Christ brings. Our gifts to others in Jesus’ name make God tangible to them. This act not only brings joy to the receiver but also to the giver. As Christ taught us,
It is more blessed to give than receive. – Acts 20:35
May the gift of Christ encourage you to give the same to another through ARDF.
